The miraculous chapel of Saint Theodora
Near the small village Vastas in the prefecture of Arcadia, there is the miraculous chapel of Saint Theodora, located in a verdant idyllic creek with dense oak forest.
The journey to Agia Theodora Vasta also compensates the visitor, since the scenery is idyllic. As one approaches the hum of the waters gushing from the foundations of the small church, it is heard more and more intensely, causing the visitor to awe in front of the spectacle he finally sees.
The chapel is characterized as a natural miracle because of 17 small oak trees that exist on the roof, the roots of which are nowhere to be seen, and a small flows from its foundations.
There are several beliefs about the historical truth. One theory holds that St. Theodora was Augustus Theodora, daughter of Emperor Constantine VIII of the Macedonian dynasty, who is said to have ruled as a man from 1055 to 1056. Augustus Theodora according to Michael II's claims by Michael II with a movement she became seriously ill and died, while others are believed to have killed her and buried her here. According to tradition, however, Agia Theodora disguised herself as a man and enlisted in the Byzantine army as "Captain Theodore" to fulfill her family's obligations. There, after being slaughtered, he was unjustly convicted of unlawful acts and killed there. The martyr testified of her faith and was executed here by her persecutors. Shortly before he was executed, he prayed: "... Lord, transform my body to church, my hair to trees that bear witness to your protection in my purity, and my blood to water. Amen". So it was that after her death these seventeen trees, as well as her years, endured with every wind.
